Rehabilitation center for visually handicapped adults have been established for the purpose of the comprehensive rehabilitation of the basic underlying occupational rehabilitation and retraining. The significance of this event is great especially if one considers that before the year 1977 for us was not the institution that would provide retraining and rehabilitation of severely visually handicapped after a loss or a substantial weakening of vision in age. These individuals were the retention of their destiny without the possibility of adaptation to changed environmental conditions for preparing for the recovery of autonomy, independence and opportunities for employment and the social application. The major change in this place on 1 September 1977, which started its activity Rehabilitation Center for the visually handicapped in Levoca (RSZP), which established the conditions and possibilities of a comprehensive adaptation of visually handicaped adults living in the changed conditions after the loss of eyesight. During 30 years of consistently and responsibly carry out its mission, which went into coronet from its founder - Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, so that has made significant achievements in the field of practical implementation of rehabilitation and retraining, the visually handicapped, but also in the development of teaching texts, tools and methodological approaches that have been verified in practice over the years and acquired a general character. Several of these works have been published and are included in the study tyflopedic literature.
Teaching staff of this institution with nationwide scope of its work is based on cooperation with leading tyflopedagógmi Czechoslovakia, led by Doc. PhDr. John Jesenský, Csc. In shaping its own concept of rehabilitation and retraining, and drew a rich experience of foreign experts, through literature, attendance at international training and seminars and visiting the institutions with the same focus in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and Poland.
In order to improve rehabilitation and retraining, the visually impaired has been given great care upgrading material-technical equipment, so the learning process greatly benefit from the electronic learning device with a compensatory hamtovým and audio output, which blind and sighted offer unprecedented possibilities for reception and processing of various information and to create good conditions for development of education and integration of the visually handicapped.
RSZP efficiency is directly dependent on the promotion of its mission. This activity is strongly dedicated group of workers in close cooperation with mass media, the Union blind and partially-sighted Slovakia, ophthalmology, employment services, the ski club blind and partially-sighted numerous excursions through schools, civic associations and charities.
Valuable activities in Levoca RSZP lies in the personalities re-formalize broken due to loss of vision and re-entry into self-sufficiency in everyday practical life and your career and social self-empowerment, which creates the preconditions for a full life, and equality and equity of the visually handicapped.
Progress and development of rehabilitation and job retraining adult visually impaired largely influenced its inclusion in the management system. From Jehu to the emergence until 1991 our facility did not have the right personality and deciding major issues of rehabilitation and retraining process, we were fully dependent on r. 1977 until KÚSS from 1989 in Kosice, in 1990 we managed OÚSS in Sp. Nova Ves, and the first half of 1991 our activity guide OUP in Sp. Nova Ves. With understanding and MOLSA R SR need professional management of the entire rehabilitation and retraining process, the necessity of modernization and adaptation of the market economy we have been since 1 Inclusion July 1991 under the direct management MOLSA R and SR and we acquired legal personality, which was essential for the creative development of the rehabilitation and retraining process.
